Look, we’ve all been there. And If you’re reading this, you’re either anticipating having a hangover (have fun, be safe!), or you’re painfully enduring one. At any rate! Me, a humble writer and tea enthusiast is here to present to you a whole bunch of teas, information and suggestions on how to avoid these nasty hangovers in the future. Dealing with a hangover isn’t anyone’s favorite thing to do. In fact, I’m going to make the broad-sweeping assumption that it isn’t something you’d ever have to deal with again! There’s some small things you can do to fend off the aches, nausea and general feeling of dread. What are those? You’re not going to like these, but in most cases it’s moderating the amount you drink in the first place. Drinking steadily, over a longer period of time as opposed to binge drinking quickly, can create at the very least a less severe hangover to look forward to in the morning.
The other obvious alternative to that is increasing your water consumption while you’re drinking. At the very real chance of sounding like a prude, you really should incorporate water into your evening when you’re drinking. Drinking a glass of water intermittently throughout the night will help you body metabolize the alcohol more easily, thus reducing the chance of it having to do it all at once, putting you in a very unhappy state of being.
What is a Hangover?
In essence, a hangover is the natural consequence for overloading your system with alcohol faster than your body can metabolize it. It occurs after the inebriation effect of the substance wears off, leaving you feeling less than great. So much so in fact, that you just about hate your life in that moment. It’s bad. Nearly everyone has had to endure at least once, but what can you do to mitigate the entire situation?
Besides the most common cures, myths, old wive’s tales and superstitions, there’s one thing that may very well ease those symptoms well. Tea probably can’t prevent you from getting a hangover, but it could very well be a helpful tool in dealing with the awful symptoms associated with one. These teas that we’re reviewing will do just that, stock your cupboard and you might just have a chance at enduring a bit better. These teas are chock full of health benefits, perfect for getting you back in action! And remember, these teas are no replacement for sound medical advice.
Dehydration also plays a significant factor in the way you’re feeling. If you’re drinking nothing but alcohol in an evening, your body isn’t having all of its needs met. That, combined with the taxing process of alcohol metabolization, leaves you feeling woefully under the weather the morning after. Your body has been separating and breaking down toxins all night, without any nourishment. The first thing you should do upon waking up, is to consume a moderate amount of water, slowly, to rehydrate yourself and ease your digestive system into eating and drinking some tea.
Ginger tea is like the aspirin of the herbal tea world. It’s kind of a cure-all, when it comes to aiding in different symptoms of just about any mild illness that may befall you. It’s truly amazing, providing a calming and soothing effect, as well as a taste that’s not difficult to drink. You’d be surprised at the amount of tea blends containing ginger out there. This root finds its way into just about everything from food to beverages, and is well known for its ability to help calm your stomach. I’ve personally used ginger tea, as well as other products containing ginger to subdue a sour stomach, as well as an upset one after a night of drinking. Green tea has the wonderful ability to act as a natural antibacterial. It clears a lot of the bad bacteria in your mouth, and it’s just as helpful going down, too. I recommend taking green tea with a meal, as you wouldn’t want to upset your stomach more than you have already. It generally has a mild flavor on it’s own, so your senses won’t be totally overwhelmed either.

Peppermint tea is a no-brainer for me when I’m pondering healthy and revitalizing teas to help you through a nasty hangover. Seriously, these teas are as refreshing as they are tasty. Incredibly aromatic, you’ll more than likely stick with this stuff even after the symptoms have passed. Reach for some peppermint tea to make your life just a bit easier, and to ease that stomach a little. Peppermint tea has a well-rounded effect on your senses as a whole. Firstly, the fragrant aroma from this tea is a much welcome scent when you first wake up from a gnarly hangover. Personally, I have found that the smell wards off nausea when I drink the stuff. Secondly, the taste is subtle, yet really soothing. Peppermint tea tastes a lot like the candy does, just without any sugar or sticky fingers. You’ll find this herbal tea is calming, soothes nausea, and eases your mind.

Black tea is the one that you might have not expected as one of the best tea for a hangover. However, it is indeed! The good news is above all else, you’ve probably got this in your cupboard already. I’ve selected Taylors of Harrogate Yorkshire Red since it’s a personal favorite of mine. It has a deep flavor and pleasant aroma. That’s not all, the high caffeine content is enough to get your back up on your feet, as well as aid in easing those awful hangover headaches. Black tea has the ability to hydrate you as well, which is good because it’s easier on your stomach than water when you’re feeling really uneasy. Adding milk and sugar to your taste can help you as well. Sugar will help replenish your system and get over that nausea quicker.

These teas can do wonders to improve the state of your overall health and wellbeing in their own right. As aids in your fight against either your current, or upcoming hangover, they’re quite useful, too. Choose something with a flavor that’s going to lend well to your tastes. Because honestly, the last thing you’d want is to have to choke down some tea you don’t enjoy the taste of. When all is said and done, I’d have to go out on a limb and say the peppermint tea is my personal best tea for a hangover. Really, the aroma and soothing effects make living just a little less miserable the morning after.
