What Does an Electric Kettle Do?
Generally speaking, electric kettles boil water for tea, coffee or any other foods that require fresh boiling water. They’re handy appliances to have around in the kitchen, especially for families as well as coffee and tea lovers, too! They’re typically urns which use heating elements to rapidly boil water for everyday use. Nowadays they’re even cordless, featuring 360-degree swivel bases which the urn, jug or kettle can be removed from when not heating water.

Why Buy an electric Kettle?
Simply, if you’re someone who drinks more than just one cup of tea over the course of a day. Electric kettles cut down on energy consumption. They achieve this by boiling water using less power than a stovetop kettle which requires the element to be heated up by either gas or electricity. There’s no reason to boil over fussing with long lists of features and characteristics, we’ll break down several of the best tea kettles you can find based on function and value.
Cosori Electric Gooseneck Kettle
This flashy stainless steel kettle is an all in one water boiling appliance. That sounds a bit ridiculous, but bare with me! 5 temperature presets for all of your favorite types of tea and coffee bring water to the optimal temperature. That means you’ll get the best out of your tea leaves or ground coffee, protecting your investment if ‘premium’ or top shelf hot beverages are more your cup of tea.
This kettle boils water in 3-5 minutes. That’s what I’d consider just quicker than standard boiling time. The time is variable of course because the amount of water used, and temperature preset will change your boiling times.
The Cosori is a great little kettle, its goose-neck design allows for easier but slower pouring if you’re a big pour over coffee fan. (If you’re anything like me, you hate drippy and messy spouts!)
- Goose-neck design for easy no-drip pouring
- Precise temperature controls by type of tea
- Comparably fast boiling time
- Slightly lower capacity; less cups of tea per kettle
- Stainless steel lid that doesn’t fit snug
Cuisinart PerfecTemp Electric Kettle
This is a 1.7 liter capacity stainless steel kettle that rivals the Cosori in boiling features. When you’re looking for the best electric kettle, it’s important to look at what the ‘top shelf’ of these appliances really look like, and Cuisinart comes somewhere close to. Precision is again the biggest selling feature of this kettle. 6 precise temperature controls allow you to heat the water to the perfect temperature for green, white, oolong, herbal, black tea and French press coffee.
What stands out is a lifesaver, and something you might not have known you wanted until you did! That is of course, a keep warm feature. The number of times in a week I turn on a kettle, only to wander back into the room and reheat it is embarrassing. This feature allows you to boil the water ahead of time so it’s ready when you are.
Also worth noting, a heating element is concealed inside the pot, paired with a removable scale filter to improve the lifespan of this kettle against corrosive scaling. A window with liter capacity shows you just how much water you’ve got left, too. All around this is as close to a ‘smart’ kettle as you can get, if ever there were such a thing. That being said, it’s got a higher-end price tag. If the features and water capacity are a good fit for you, this might be your best electric kettle yet!
- Decent water capacity
- Precise temperature control presets
- Stainless steel interior
- Higher price range
- Button press open mechanism for filling
Miroco Electric Kettle
This black double walled electric kettle is the value answer to the Cosori and Cuisinart models. It also has temperature control, without all of the bells and whistles. One ‘set’ button changes the temperature on a small digital display. This might just be the best electric kettle for families, with an ‘anti scald’ exterior so the entire appliance is cool to the touch. On that same note, you can also disable the beeping feature with this model.
You can also avoid plastics with a completely stainless steel interior. Sadly, it does require a longer time to boil than the other models when filled completely to its 1.7 liter capacity. That being said, this model comes in at a mid range price point making it a good value option.
- Adjustable digital temperature control
- ‘Anti scaled’ exterior for cool touch
- Keep warm feature
- Can turn off beeping alert
- Longer boiling time
Maxi-Matic Double Wall Insulated Electric Kettle
This might just be the best electric kettle in our list in terms of style! This stainless steel kettle with a white ivory exterior has a unique design and base that makes it a good countertop piece. This is the ‘Elite Platinum’ Maxi-Matic kettle designed with slightly less functionality, and more visual appeal. To be totally honest, the faux crystal handle on top of the lid is the coolest part!
This is a smaller capacity kettle at 1.2 liters, which also makes it a better space saver for smaller kitchens and easier storage. It’s operated by a simple paddle switch, making it a n ‘on-off’ only electric kettle. It’s also double walled, so you don’t have to worry about scalding your fingertips on it either. While it’s a practical kettle, it’s more or less best suited for one or two tea drinkers at once. It has a faster boil time thanks to its smaller size, too.
- Double-walled insulation for cool touch
- Small design with a unique handle makes it a space saver
- Lower price point
- Snap-on stainless steel lid is somewhat awkward to use
AmazonBasics Stainless Steel Electric Kettle
If all you need is a bare-bones basic electric kettle for tea, this might just be your best bet! What I love most about this value kettle is the sheer simplicity. It’s a smple on or off switch, with a button-press handle and that’s more or less everything there is to it! So that begs the question, why should you buy this simple electric tea kettle? It’s the only one I’ve reviewed that provides the best value for the most basic function, that is, boiling water.
You’ll get 1 liter of boiled water in as little as 4 minutes, which is its sole function. What it does not deliver in extra features, it makes up for with a low price point. It isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, though. This kettle has no insulation, meaning that your water starts cooling the second it’s done boiling.
- Affordable value electric kettle
- Simple to use
- No insulation
- Button-press lid
The Best Electric Tea Kettle
You’re going to find that the best electric tea kettle is the one that best fits with your lifestyle. If you live by yourself, or you’re the only tea drinker, you probably don’t need anything with a lot of water capacity. Opt for a smaller kettle, and get extra features where you can save on size. Maybe style is important to you if you’re storing the kettle on the countertops. Of if you’re like me and you’ve got little ones in the home, you definitely don’t want one that can scald to the touch!
At the end of the day, different features are going to be different must-haves for people. I found the Cuisinart PerfecTemp to provide the best array of features to suit my needs. It doesn’t boil the quickest, but its easy to use temperature control functions and capacity made it the best electric kettle for me.
With any luck these reviews will guide you to your best boiling solution! Thanks for checking out these tea kettle reviews. Remember to make sure you’ve found an electric kettle that fits your budget and your needs, happy brewing!
